Tour a Swift Boat from Maritime Museum of San Diego
The U.S. Navy officially called them Patrol Craft Fast—PCFs for short, but the men who served on them during Vietnam have always known them as Swift Boats.
In 1971, the US Navy donated two Swift Boats to the newly formed Republic of Malta’s Maritime Squadron.
After forty years of coastguard duty, Malta retired these boats from service. In 2011, Malta's Minister of Defense donated a Swift Boat to the Maritime Museum of San Diego with our promise to preserve her history and to pay tribute to all Swift Boat Sailors from both countries.
The Swift Boat Sailors Association brought this Swift Boat to the Maritime Museum of San Diego to be restored and operated on San Diego Bay. See and board this piece of nautical history as tour guides on board discuss the PCF 816's role in the U.S., Malta, Vietnam, Swift Boat sailors and more.
Try It Cove – There’s more than one way to catch a wave!
Catch some rays…get some exercise… and have fun on the water. Padddlesports are among the world's fastest growing water sports—and you can find out why for yourself at this year's show.
Head to Try it Cove to sample a variety of activities—from stand-up paddle boarding to kayaking, canoeing and more! Be sure to bring your suit and a towel; we'll provide the equipment and changing room.
The Waterman's Depot will show SUP boards from Boda, Rogue and Pau Hana. Kayaks from Advanced Elements, Eddyline, Feel Free, Riot and Viking will be on display in the water.

Try SCUBA in a heated pool. Anyone age 10 and older can learn how to scuba dive with a certified instructor—all you need is a swim suit to participate. We will supply the scuba gear, changing rooms and hair dryers. It's a great way to try scuba diving and test some of the latest scuba equipment. You can also have a photo of yourself taken underwater as a keepsake of your "diving adventure."

FREE Sailing Lesson—Sailing Simulator
Experience how a boat reacts to wind and waves and learn how to use the tiller with the help of an ASA-certified instructor. Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the sailing simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail so you can get a feel for the water, without getting wet. It’s a unique training platform for sailors of all abilities—whether you’re just learning how to sail and or an experienced sailor who wants to practice under different sailing conditions.
The simulator was featured at the America's Cup where more than 1000 people learned how to sail. Don't miss your chance to climb aboard and take a test sail!
Nautical Activities for the Kids
Little skippers will love the Kids’ Zone where they can draw a nautical picture to take home as a souvenir, enjoy activities at Try It Cove and playing bag “bait” toss at the Progressive® Insurance booth for prizes.
